Camp Kinhaven 2012
Camp Kinhaven is an extension of Kinhaven School, a parent-governed independent preschool located in the heart of Arlington’s Ballston neighborhood, combining the staff, environment, and philosophy of Kinhaven School with a healthy dose of good old-fashioned summertime fun!
Kinhaven's summer day camp serves children ages 2-5 years old. It will run from June 25 through August 16, 2012, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. The program is held Monday through Thursday each week.

We will hold three different sessions. Each session at Camp Kinhaven features a theme around which age-appropriate experiences are planned, both outdoors and in the various learning centers of the classroom. The session dates and themes are:

Construction Junction
Session I, June 25- July 12

Put on your hard hat to enter the construction zone. With traditional building materials, re-use supplies, and confectionery creations campers will design marshmallow buildings, gum drop domes, paper tube castles and towering skyscrapers. Older campers will use the woodworking table to take their structures from concept to reality. Tuition $445.00

Down on the Farm

Session II, July 16-26

Summertime is the right time to go down on the farm. Making butter, growing spouts, and practicing animal care will be highpoints of your child’s session, which culminates with a visit from Old McDonald and his farm animals. Tuition $300.00

Go for the Gold

Session III, July 30 - August 16

From the chitons and laurel wreaths of ancient Greece to classic athletic events plus a few creative preschool versions, the London Olympic Games inspire the fun of Session III. Campers will conduct a torch relay, participate in the parade of nations, and design their own medals, flags and more. Tuition $445.00

Tuition for all three sessions (nine weeks): $1075.00

Registration

Registration forms will be processed in the order they are received, beginning February 6 for current Kinhaven families, and February 13 for all others. A registration fee and a non-refundable* deposit of $175 per session must be submitted with a registration form for each child. The registration fee is $25 per child for current Kinhaven families, and $40 per child for all others. The balance of the tuition is due no later than May 31. For children new to Kinhaven, an original birth certificate or passport must be presented at the Kinhaven office by May 31, 2012.

*If space is not available in the session(s) you selected, you will be notified and the deposit for the applicable session(s) will be returned to you. Deposits are not refundable for any other reason.

Children must be two years old by June 1. Children who are five years old must not yet have attended kindergarten.

Daily Activities

Class Meetings provide the framework for the day as children and teachers greet one another- often in song, discuss the topic of the day, and choose a primary area of work for the morning.

Work Time encompasses a protracted period of play including individual and small group play devised by children as well as thematically relevant experiences designed by the teachers for small groups of children.

Meals: Children and teachers share a morning snack provided by Kinhaven. Each child brings a lunch from home. (Please be aware that refrigeration of lunches is not generally available.)

Outdoor Time: Summer affords nearly every experience to be conducted outdoors, weather permitting! The playground offers climbing equipment, and we will also enjoy sprinklers, painting, gardening, games, bubbles and more. In case of rain or excessive heat, our large gym provides opportunities for indoor active play.

SWAP Room: Sand, Water, Art, Paint are just a few of the options in this environment designed for sensory and creative exploration.
