Learning
Through Play
Kinhaven's teaching
philosophy is rooted in the belief that young children learn best
through play. This philosophy is upheld by our professional educators
with activities that foster a stimulating, nurturing atmosphere in
which preschoolers can learn and grow. We address multiple aspects of learning, including intellectual, physical, and social growth.
Cognitive growth
- At all age levels, arts and crafts projects develop small motor
coordination while encouraging children to experience the pride of
creation. We have a wonderful SWAP (sand, water and paint) room which
is dedicated solely for these very messy, but greatly enjoyed, experiences.
Physical Growth - Kinhaven
strongly supports the idea that physical development and coordination
are necessary skills for young children. All classes have daily scheduled
gross motor play periods. Weather permitting, the children are taken
to our fenced-in courtyard playground to run, ride, jump and climb.
For inclement weather play we have a large indoor gym. In both areas,
the children have access to many ride-on toys, tumbling mats, and climbing
structures.
Social Growth
- Fostering the social development of preschoolers is one of the primary
goals at Kinhaven. The children are given many opportunities to play and interact together. They learn rules of group and individual behavior through rotating daily assignments such as line leader, door holder,
calendar and weather marker. The children take great pride in accomplishing
these tasks on their designated days.
