We strongly believe that children's most
important teachers are their parents. For the children,
parental participation in Kinhaven links the world of school with
the familiar domain of home. Parents bring a special warmth to the
classroom and are an enormous reservoir of ideas for activities, field
trips, or special programs.
Since Kinhaven is a cooperative, all
Kinhaven member families are required to spend a specific amount of time, based on the number of days their children attend, helping run the school. Volunteering may be done in or out of the classroom
as best suits an individual's schedule and talents.
We encourage all parents to serve
at least one year on the Board of Directors during their tenure at
Kinhaven. Each class has at least one parent that serves on the Board.
The Executive Board and Committee Chairs set school policy and oversee
functions such as hiring, finance, membership,
work hour coordination, and fundraising.
